Name and describe the Hero

our hero is jack. he is a pirate. he lives in England with his mom. he is very tall. he has short black hair. he is 8 years old. He is young and doesn't want to eat his vegetables  this makes him mom very mad.

Unusual birth

when he was born there was an solar eclipse. 

The call to adventure

jack decides to leave home because his mom kicks him out, since he doesn't eat his vegetables  he needs to go find a new place to live. its very cold on the streats of london and jack only gets food from rummaging through trash cans. he eats vegatbles he finds in the trash even since he is so hungry. he is getting very desprate for food and is crying when he sees a glowing red globe.

Supernatural helper

he jumps around and there is Rudolph. Rudolph gives him advice on where he should go next. Since jack is a pirate he tells him he should go to the sea. Rudolph helps him find a boat. When no one is looking jack and his cat tulip sneak aboard and sail off! 

his weapon is his cat. his cat is very small and cant do much damage but it has very sharp claws and selflessly attacks people who try and hurt him. jack hates this because he doesnt want his cat to get hurt. one day on the boat tulip noticed jack was hungry. she decided to jump off the side of the ship to get jack some fish. she landed with a big splash and realized the water was very cold and she couldnt swim! jack jumped into rescue her and saved her just in time. after that jack made a fishing line. 

Crossing the threshold

after he leaves his house he goes and buys a boat with rudolphs help. setting sail is his crossing of the theshold.

What is the difference between the things adults care about, and the things children care about?

 The some of the main differences to me seems to be that the things the adults want are more solid and yet more fleeting. They are more permanent but the happiness you gain from them seams to pass much more quickly, and less pure. (If you are careful with it) money or power will last a longer time then a sunset, or a rose. But after you, for example get promoted by ratting out your best friend, or making up rumors about them, you might feel a sense of accomplishment from that for a bit. More power for you without them in the way! But you will probably feel as your happiness was being tainted by something. Even working hard and finally crawling your way up the corporate latter honestly may not feel genuine. So I got a 5% pay bump. Now I can get internet access on my phone service, so what? The moments are less of something you can look back on when you are older. The adult moments also seem to me to be more quantifiable. You can tell how much power you have over people by how much you can make them do. You can tell how much money you have by counting it. You can’t quantify how happy a sunset or flower makes you. Both lists show things that someone thinks will lead to happiness. But why do adults think escape, or work, or reputation will lead there? I think it must be taught to people, they learn different things to make you happy as you grow up. Someone somewhere said to them “what are you doing? You can’t be happy without power.” And they since they were convinced by whomever it was that without power they wouldn’t be happy, they worked as hard as they could trying to gain power. Another thing all the things on the adults list is that they lead deeper and deeper into themselves. The more you drink, the sadder you are that you have been drinking, the more you drink to hide those feelings. You can always have more power. You can always have more money. You can always have more respect. You can have more fun, and you can be happier, but once you are truly happy you really stop thinking about other things like that. If you are having fun with your friends on a water slide, and you are laughing and playing and having a crazy fun time you aren’t going to be thinking “oh I wish I had a bigger water slide, oh I wish I had more friends, I wish we were having more fun”. You will be enjoying yourself. If you are standing in your office on the top floor in the nicest one you might feel happy. You probably will feel self-satisfaction with yourself. But in the back of your mind you will be thinking, I like this feeling, how can I get more of it? Always searching for more power. How you can make the next building and the building after that yours.  Basically what I’m trying to say from all this is that since the happiness you get from the adult list is less genuine, you are likely to feel less genuinely happy. Losing your innocence and purity for the things you think matter right now, might not matter in the long run.

What good is imagination?

I think st. expury had a couple different reasons for writing "the little prince". first and foremost to warn of the baobab trees. The baobab trees are a very important symbol in the little prince. The first thing you have to understand about them is that they don't hurt large planets, but they can literally rip small planets to shreds. Meaning, adults can live with them easily, but a smaller person might be destroyed by them. The second thing you have to understand about the baobabs is that they are constantly trying to take over the little planet, every time he uproots one, a new one appears a little while later. The little prince says that uprooting the baobab trees isn't hard work, but its very important. I think the trees represent values and ideas other people are trying to push on to you. An older well rounded person might not be as easily corrupted then destroyed as by a baobab as a young impressionable child. The reason i think that the baobabs are the main reason for writing the book is the fact he keeps coming back to it, and his talk about how the picture he drew of them was the one he worked the hardest on. He felt the most urgency while drawing it. I think another reason he wrote it was to show a contrast between adults and children. To explain how different they really are deep down. they find different things important, they understand things a totally different way. He highlighted this trough the story by comparing the pilots emotions in a dangerous crisis, and the little princes emotions. While the pilot tried to fix his engine and find food and water to stay alive, the little prince asked for drawings and talked about the rose he loved. He didn't quite understand the seriousness of the situation he was in. that helped the pilot. It took his find off of things when talking to the little prince, and the fact is, if he had been alone in the desert he would have been much worse off. Maybe even given up the will to live. I think this is one of the main reasons imagination is good. It helps us in times of crisis, even create a new scenario where we can have fun with the things we are doing, so that they don't become a chore. I don't believe it is preferable though, as st. expury seams to think. If you get too wrapped up in your imagination you might become useless. unable to perform simple necessary tasks. You may end up doing something like, turning your bills into paper air plains, or leave the dishes piling up because you are too busy playing with toys. Thats why children wait to leave their houses. Because for a while, they need grownups to help keep them in line and teach them. Children haven't quite found the balance between mundane and necessary, and fun.
